Hoppy Haden’s departure leads to new face on commission, reshuffling of duties

The new-look Caldwell County Commissioners Court made its debut Monday morning at its Dec. 11 meeting, welcoming new interim Pct. 1 commissioner Terry Wright and acknowledging the resignation of Hoppy Haden, who stepped down to run for Caldwell County judge.
Personnel moves the court made Monday include appointing Commissioner Joe Roland to serve as Judge Pro Tem and approving the appointment of Commissioner Ed Theriot on the CAMPO Transportation/Policy Board, where he’ll fill the spot previously occupied by Haden.
“I would like to thank Commissioner Haden for all he has done for us this last year,” Theriot said. “He served on our development ordinance review committee, he helped improve visibility of our projects and our scoring criteria when competing for funding against larger counties like Travis, and he worked on our HR policies. We congratulate him on his service.”
Commissioners made several personnel moves on Monday after formally approving Haden’s resignation and Wright’s temporary appointment to the precinct 1 seat.
Wright, who is president of Garage Door Services of Houston and Windsor Door Company and son of former Caldwell County Judge H.T. Wright, has filed for the 2018 election to fill the remainder of the precinct 1 term.
“I’m very excited to be here, and I didn’t get much sleep last night, as you might expect,” Wright said on Monday. “I thank Judge (Ken) Schawe for being confident in my background and appointing me to serve. I pledge to do my best to represent precinct 1 and I look forward to the challenge.”
