LCRA starting construction on their second powerplant
In April 2024, LCRA announced it was adding a second unit to the new Timmerman Power Plant under construction in Caldwell County.
Each of the two units at Timmerman can supply up to 190 megawatts of dispatchable power to the grid. When operating at full capacity, the plant will be able to supply electricity to power than 100,000 homes during periods of peak demand. The plant is a natural gas-fired peaker plant, not a baseline plant. Peaker plants typically are used for brief periods when the demand for power approaches or surpasses the amount of available power.
We are nearing completion on the first unit of the plant, which is expected to go online late this summer. Construction on the second unit also is underway and is scheduled to be completed next year. The second unit is expected to go online in the summer of 2026. During construction, the plant has employed hundreds of full-time workers. Once the plant is operational, about 15-20 employees will be onsite daily, and those employees have been hired.
