Lockhart High School senior Miguel Portillo has been recognized as a National Football Foundation (NFF) Greater Austin Chapter Honoree, highlighting his achievements as a standout student-athlete both on and off the field.
Portillo was among 34 senior football players from across the Greater Austin area honored during the NFF Austin Chapter banquet, held at the University of Texas. The event featured notable guest speakers including former University of Texas head coach Mack Brown, longtime broadcaster Craig Way, and former Longhorns standout Michael Huff.
The NFF honor recognizes student-athletes who excel in athletics, academics, and character. Portillo’s accomplishments reflect that balance. He earned Second Team All-District honors at outside linebacker and was named First Team THSCA Academic All-State. In addition, he served as a team captain and was elected to the school’s Unity Council.
Lockhart head coach Mike Maldonado praised Portillo’s work ethic and leadership.
“Miguel is the epitome of what a student-athlete should be,” Maldonado said. “He’s hardworking, never complains, and shows up every day with a smile, ready to work. Our coaching staff couldn’t be more proud of him, and it’s been a privilege to coach him.”
Portillo’s recognition places him among the top scholar-athletes in Central Texas, underscoring his dedication in the classroom, on the field, and within his community.
