Chisholm Trail Roundup returns to Lockhart for 52nd Year
By Anthony Collins,

For a little over five decades, the Chisholm Trail Roundup has been a cornerstone of Caldwell County’s summer calendar, and in 2025, the tradition is alive and thriving as Lockhart prepares to host its 52nd annual event from June 12–14 at Lockhart City Park.
A tribute to the region’s Western roots and cattle-driving history, the Chisholm Trail Roundup is more than just a rodeo, it’s a full-blown celebration of community, culture, music, food, and frontier spirit. Organizers promise a bigger and bolder roundup this year, with three full days of entertainment and activities designed for residents and visitors of all ages.
Cowboy Breakfast
To officially kick off the 52nd Annual Chisholm Trail Roundup, the Kiwanis Club of Lockhart will host their traditional chuck wagon breakfast the morning before the first day of CTR festivities. This year is no different. Join them on Wednesday, June 11 from 6:30am – 9:00am on the square for a delicious Cowboy Breakfast as we get ready for another year of historic fun.
The breakfast is free for those with pre-sale CTR wristbands, including our VIP (sponsors). But for only $8 breakfast can be had for those who have not yet gotten their wristbands. Proceeds will go towards the Lockhart Kiwanis Club Scholarship Program. For more information, contact our Lockhart Kiwanis Club at 512-398-9300 or the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce at 512-398-2818 during regular business hours.
Rodeo Nights With a Cause
The actual festival officially kicks off Thursday evening with Teacher Appreciation Night, shining a spotlight on local educators who help shape the next generation of Lockhart citizens. That night’s rodeo, presented by the Diamond Cross Rodeo Company, will feature classic rough stock events like bareback riding, saddle bronc, and bull riding, along with the ever-popular Mutton Bustin’ competition for the youngest cowhands.
On Friday, the roundup salutes the area’s brave first responders with a special evening of rodeo events honoring police, firefighters, EMTs, and other public safety professionals. Saturday closes out the rodeo series with Military Appreciation Night, dedicated to active-duty personnel and veterans. All rodeo events begin at 7:30 p.m., with thrilling replays displayed on a massive LED screen inside the arena.
Music, Food, and Fun Fill the Park
Beyond the bucking chutes, the festival grounds will pulse with the sounds of live Texas music throughout the weekend. Thursday night, Saltflat Blvd brings its high-energy performance to the stage. Friday is Tejano Night, headlined by EZ Band, and Saturday’s musical finale features rising star Nathan Colt Young followed by acclaimed Texas country artist Bart Crow, who will close the night with a headline set starting at 11:00 p.m.
Festival-goers can also expect a classic carnival with games, rides, and food booths lining the park. Local vendors will serve up everything from funnel cakes and turkey legs to refreshing drinks and artisan crafts, making it easy to eat, shop, and play your way through the event.
Grand Parade Returns to Historic Downtown
A major highlight of the roundup is Saturday morning’s Grand Parade through Downtown Lockhart, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Sponsored by First Lockhart National Bank, the parade boasts more than 150 entries, ranging from elaborately decorated floats and antique tractors to dance troupes, high school marching bands, and horseback riders. Paradegoers are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good spot along the route, especially near the historic courthouse square.
Legendary BBQ and Chili Competition
Lockhart’s reputation as the Barbecue Capital of Texas is on full display during the event’s popular BBQ and Chili Cook-Off. Teams from across the state will compete in categories such as beans, chicken, pork ribs, chili, and brisket, with judging taking place throughout the day on Saturday. The results, and bragging rights, will be revealed during the evening awards ceremony.
Family-Friendly and Affordable
Organizers emphasize that the Chisholm Trail Roundup is a family-friendly event designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all. Children 12 and under receive free admission, and ticket packages are reasonably priced, a three-day festival and rodeo pass is just $28, with single-day tickets available for as little as $12.
Visitors are reminded that a clear bag policy will be enforced for security purposes. Attendees should also bring lawn chairs, blankets, sunscreen, and plenty of Texas-sized enthusiasm for what promises to be one of the best Roundups yet.
