Lockhart ISD Names Christina Smith as Director of Special Services

Lockhart Independent School District is proud to announce the appointment of Christina Smith as the district’s new Director of Special Services. With more than 15 years of experience in special education leadership, Smith brings a deep commitment to student-centered practices, inclusive support systems, and collaborative leadership.
Smith joined Lockhart ISD in 2023 as the district’s Special Education Compliance Coordinator. In that role, she demonstrated a keen understanding of instructional compliance, student needs, and interdepartmental collaboration—earning the trust of staff and families across the district.
Prior to her time in Lockhart ISD, Smith served in Austin ISD and Northside ISD in several leadership roles, including Special Education Supervisor, Coordinator, and Campus Coordinator. Her experience spans campus, central office, and districtwide levels, supporting diverse student populations and building capacity among educators and administrators alike.
Smith holds two master’s degrees: one in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington, and another in Special Education with a concentration in Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from Texas State University. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Southwest Texas State University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational and Community Leadership, with an expected graduation in May 2026.

As Director of Special Services, Smith will oversee the district’s special education programs, Section 504, and related services, ensuring that Lockhart ISD continues to provide high-quality, equitable support to every student. Ms. Smith will officially begin her new role on June 9, 2025.
